The 42nd YEU Convention: “YEU Developing YOUth – Shaping Chameleons of Tomorrow” took place from the 16th to the 22nd of September in Mollina, Spain, with the aim of encouraging youth workers to step out of their comfort zones, meet peers from all over the world and attend various training courses on leadership and communication, while making unforgettable memories. The project was co-funded by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
The Convention was organised within the framework of the University on Youth and Development (UYD) and focused on the theme “For the Culture of Human Rights and the Rule of Law.” During the UYD, our participants had the opportunity to embark on a learning journey, listening to panel discussions about human rights and the rule of law and joining interactive activities of non-formal education.
Striving to foster a sense of belonging and empowerment in young people, the UYD consisted of a safe, welcoming and friendly environment for more than 150 people from more than 50 different countries. The following activities were organised: capacity building activity: Championing Dialogue for cohesion by the International Dialogue Centre Centre (KAICIID), the training course: Rule of Law Youth Network (RoLYN) by the North-South Center of Council of Europe, the training course: Global Education and Education for Sustainable Development by the North-South Center of Council of Europe, the training course: Educate for Democracy by Developing Youth Participation At Local Level (DYPALL), the training course: Empowering Action: COP Delegate Training Programme by the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the editorial meeting: Finalisation of a policy paper on “School Student Demands on Education 2040″ by the Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU), our training course: YEU Developing YOUth – Shaping Chameleons of Tomorrow, as well as the Meeting of Africa and Europe stakeholders in the field of youth.
This year’s YEU Convention gathered 34 participants from 17 different nationalities, proving that we’re all united in our unique personalities. Partaking in a plethora of activities, discussions, workshops, and collaborative exercises, our participants met and gradually connected with each other through team building games, problem-solving and critical thinking activities as well as communication challenges.
All in all, the event was conducted in a dynamic and participatory environment that promoted networking, cooperation, and non-formal education. This six-day training course was designed to create solutions for youth workers with fewer opportunities, emphasising quality and adaptability through intercultural dialogue.
The 23rd Edition of the University on Youth and Development (UYD) and the 42nd YEU Convention are now over but we’ll forever cherish the unforgettable memories from the event and the learnings regarding human rights and the rule of law.
