YEU “Coffee with…” the European Youth Forum on #vote16 campaign

As a true YEU tradition, the “Coffee with…” was back for its 4th edition of this year. Each time we are so happy to gather all together around a cup of coffee and discuss together with special guests topics of high interest and relevance for young people.

This time, we were honoured to have the European Youth Forum (YFJ) answering our questions about their campaign for lowering the voting age to 16! We welcomed the Vice President of the YFJ, Christiana Xenofontos, and Rares Voicu, one of the new board members since January 2023. The discussion was moderated by Ismael Paez Civico, who has been part of YEU family and who’s now part of the YFJ as a board member!

Discussions revolved around the fact that lowering the voting age to 16 could encourage youth democratic participation and the implementation of this measure in European countries and beyond could change the democratic culture. If young people are used to feeling concerned about elections, and expressing their opinion, this can encourage them to vote. Having said that, it is important to remember that YFJ works with youth organizations such as YEU. We have to create those tools to raise awareness of young people and encourage them to voice up.

We would like to thank our guests for their time and the engagement for young people! It was so interesting to know more about their campaign on this topic.

We will let you know more about our next “Coffee with…” in the upcoming weeks! Please feel free to spread the word and invite your friends: everyone is welcome to join!
