“It’s about keeping space for freedom and courage.
The courage of free people must have a place.”
– Heinrich Böll, German writer
last week Solijugend was present at the German Child and Youth Day (DJHT) 2021 with a digital stand and the event “Live Learning – A way to Europe for everyone! International exchange for young people with special needs”. The DJHT is a trade fair for everyone involved in child and youth welfare.
At the moment we are using the pandemic to focus more on the international sector and at the same time to empower our local associations throughout Germany with know-how. We are planning to expand the network with our North African partner organizations and to qualify our members in the implementation of an “international youth leader card”. For this purpose we are currently looking for a project worker.
At the end of March, the regional network “Diversity and Participation” between the state of Hesse and Nouvelle-Aquitaine was launched with great speeches and over 70 participants from France and Germany. Our colleague Emilia Schanz is currently intensively involved in setting up this network.
Despite the current situation, we do not give up hope that we will be able to carry out our international youth meetings, which bring together around 250 young people from 12 countries every year, this year – albeit with fewer participants. We hope that, despite the situation and with the help of a comprehensive hygiene concept, we will be able to welcome many of our international partners to Germany in August.
