Supporting youth participation in policy-making processes is one of the main strategic priorities of the Armenian Progressive Youth NGO. Thus, as one of the biggest youth organizations in Armenia, APY promotes youth engagement in the development, elaboration and design of Armenia’s new State Youth Policy Strategy for 2021-2025, which is going to be adopted by the government in June 2021.
Armenia’s State youth policy is a system of priorities, programs, measures and mechanisms, aimed at creating the necessary conditions for youth participation, socialization and self-realization; engaging and developing youth potential to contribute to the strengthening of national security, socio-economic and cultural development of the Republic of Armenia.
Having a decade of experience of working with young people via non-formal educational activities and supporting the development of their skills and competences, APY initiated a Youth Forum – to engage 120 young people across the country in a policy dialogue and make sure young people themselves shape the main priorities of the youth policy.
Organized on May 8th, APY in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, hosted the first ever National Youth Forum that brought together more than 120 participants from every region of Armenia. The main objective of the forum was giving young people a chance to be part of the decision-making processes and drive change – in their own lives, in their own communities, and in their larger spheres of influence. The Youth Forum allowed its participants to be the architects of Armenia’s Youth Policy Strategy and to have their say.
During the forum, the participants were divided in six working groups to voice different challenges that the Armenian youth faces nowadays. Taking into consideration these challenges, the participants of each working group came up with recommendations for the state institutions.
The packages of recommendations developed by all the 6 working groups of the Youth Forum will be presented to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia and will be taken into consideration while finalizing the Strategy of the State Youth Policy for 2021-2025.
APY gives great importance to the Forum, which is space for young people to interact with policy-makers and offer innovative solutions to existing problems. Often strategies adopted by the governments are not linked with the real needs and expectations of the young people population. APY tries its best to build bridges between young people and policy-makers to ensure the relevance and reliability of the adopted policies and strategies.
