USB – Communities driving change

Dozens of young people gathered at the City Hall of Thessaloniki, on December 12th, 2021, to discuss needs and problems that concern them as citizens of this place, in order to exchange realities and find solutions to common issues. The event took place in the context of the Europe for Citizens project “Communities Driving Change” and it was co-organised by United Societies of Balkans, InfinityGreece and Municipal Youth Council of Thessaloniki, all parties that aim at the empowerment of young people.

Topics discussed were education, employability and work, the urban landscape of Thessaloniki and environmental issues concerning it, the lack of rights for certain minorities and the necessity of undertaking of respective responsibilities for their establishment, and of course the participation of young people in decision-making, which we tried to strengthen through this event.

Communities Driving Change is a Εurope for Citizens project that focuses on empowering the ordinary citizen, through digital tools that facilitate expression and improve the quality of information reaching decision-makers. Still, the activation of creativity and critical thinking through non-formal methods of education, dialogue and various field activities act as multipliers for the social benefits that our work brings. Among them, the more active participation of the citizens in the decision-making process, as well as the deepening of the interest and the knowledge on issues that concern us directly.
