Coffee With Spyros Papadatos | Inclusion of Rural Youth

Before the beginning of the summer season, the third “Coffee with” of the year took place on the 19th of June, featuring guest speaker Spyros Papadatos, former chair of the Advisory Council on Youth and the current Secretary General of Rural Youth Europe that is an umbrella for youth organisations working to promote and activate young people in the countryside. This event was moderated by YEU PET Coordinator Valbona Makovci.

Spyros Papadatos has demonstrated his commitment to youth empowerment over the years and his discussion on promoting youth participation in decision-making strengthened our belief in the importance of youth representation. From his experience, being actively involved in democratic life is not just about voting in elections, but it also involves being part of the decision-making process. Indeed, he emphasised the need for more space to be given to young people in this regard.

This “Coffee with…” also served as the closing event for our Rural Youth Advocacy campaign. The policy recommendations written by our No Agenda Advocacy Group were presented, leading to an engaging discussion on the inclusion of rural youth in European policies.

We now look forward to learning more about the policy recommendations written by the Advisory Youth Council on this topic. As  YEU, we will continue advocating for and reaching out to more and more rural youth in our project.
